  2. To take the admission exam for the higher level.
  3. To be selected for admission.

Work Field

The labor market can be divided into three main sectors: public, private, and research and development. Within these three sectors, the most important for the Pharmaceutical Engineer is the private sector, taking into account the multiple possibilities of development in the widely varied areas that exist in the sector and taking into account that most of the large pharmaceutical consortiums have production plants in our country. This involves the reception, analysis, and control of raw materials to the formulation, quality control, and packaging of the final product.

The coverage of these areas must necessarily include all the unitary operations involved in the areas of production, recovery, and purification of a drug, as well as the quality control and performance of each of the operations of the previous areas.

Pharmaceutical engineers will also have access to the areas of product process validation and equipment involved in the different areas of a pharmochemical company. It is worth mentioning that the positions to be filled in all the above-mentioned areas of this sector range from specialized technicians to management level.

  • In the public sector, the labor market is more restricted since only some parastatal companies maintain production processes of pharma chemicals and therapeutic agents due to their social importance and their repercussions on the health of the Mexican population. However, these production plants follow the same guidelines described for the industrial sector.

  • Finally, in the research and development sector, the recruitment of pharmaceutical engineers has an almost virgin field because in this sector it is necessary to complement knowledge with postgraduate studies; however, the emerging fields in the area of research and development for the production of new drugs, the development of diagnostic reagents and new therapeutic systems based on genetic engineering and molecular biology make it extremely attractive, since it must be taken into account that all these products have a biotechnological production and control base, which implies taking into account their eventual scaling up.
