IPN and Tlaxcala Government inaugurate CIBA Research Building

The IPN´s General Director, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, and the Governor of Tlaxcala, Lorena Cuellar Cisneros, inaugurated the Research, Technological Development and Innovation Building of the Center for Research in Applied Biotechnology (CIBA, for its acronym in spanish), Tlaxcala Unit, and signed a Specific Collaboration Agreement, through which the Center for Regional Linkage and Development (CVDR) will be created to detonate the growth of the productive sector of that entity.

The Secretary of Public Education, Delfina Gomez Alvarez has stated that the Government of Mexico strengthens the public school with the commitment to consolidate the national transformation and, therefore, addresses one of the most important lags that is the dignification of the educational infrastructure.

Before the cutting of the inaugural ribbon, Reyes Sandoval emphasized that once again Tlaxcala places its trust in the Polytechnic, as it did 17 years ago to give life to the CIBA and recently to the Interdisciplinary Professional Unit in Engineering Campus Tlaxcala. When thinking about the IPN, he said, we do it not only as an educational institution, but as an institution that is born linked to the government, the states and the social, productive and business sectors.

Through the CVDR, he stressed, crucial opportunities for the growth of the productive sector will be identified and projects and measures will be drawn up that will support the transfer of knowledge, to strategically influence the needs and challenges faced by the sector. He reported that the Research, Technological Development and Innovation Building of CIBA Tlaxcala allows the integration of 18 specialized laboratories, 4 classrooms, administrative spaces and equipment with state-of-the-art technology, which will strengthen academic, research and biotechnological innovation activities.

Reyes Sandoval stressed that the CIBA has concluded 52 academic cooperation agreements with national and international institutions and has 10 patents and 16 more applications pending. "We are one of the two institutions that generates the most patents in Mexico and CIBA Tlaxcala has put a big grain of sand." I am sure with the start-up of this building, he pointed out, more projects will germinate that will strengthen institutional and national actions in the field of biotechnology. "Let's remember that with scientific bases in biotechnology we managed to have vaccines worldwide to combat the COVID-19 pandemic."

In turn, Cuéllar Cisneros assured that the Polytechnic fulfills its mission by training in its classrooms, workshops, laboratories and research centers, scientists committed to society and that is where Tlaxcala requires important research in terms of water quality and in the subject of the debarking worm. "These investigations will be extremely important in strengthening our state's environment."

Our students will no longer be alone in this government, she said, because I will be a governor close to the needs of the Polytechnic. “This government is determined to continue promoting the development of the polytechnic community, so that with its mystique it is a fundamental part in the development of our state”.

The IPN´s Secretary of Innovation and Social Integration, Ricardo Monterrubio Lopez, said that with the signing of the agreement Tlaxcala is a pioneer in having three different academic units in the same state to achieve greater social development. The Director of CIBA Tlaxcala, Diana Veronica Cortes Espinosa commented that this new infrastructure will increase scientific productivity and enrollment in the four graduate programs, in addition to generating frontier scientific knowledge in the area of biotechnology, in favor of the environment and food security.
