The Photonics Engineering curriculum aims to train ethical, competitive, and excellent professionals committed to society, who generate and apply scientific and technological knowledge in the areas of optics, electronics, optomechanics, and computing to produce wealth and welfare through the production of goods and services in the country.
The applicant to enter the Photonics Engineering career must have the following characteristics:
Solid knowledge at the high school level in the following areas:
The applicant to study Photonics Engineering will have the following skills:
The applicant to study Photonics Engineering will have the following attitudes and values:
Graduates of the Photonics Engineering program of the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica, Unidad Zacatenco are leading engineers, who comprehensively address the area of research and development, innovation, manufacturing, marketing, and application of photonic products, to contribute to the solution of problems of the economy, the environment and society with scientific and technological bases and a high social commitment.
They will be leaders in the areas and disciplines of Photonics Engineering, such as optics, electronics, optomechanics, and computing, which drive scientific and technological progress to produce wealth and welfare through the production of goods and services in the country. Will be able to work in inter and multidisciplinary teams, with skills, attitudes, and values to innovate and develop new technologies; plan, design, manufacture, install, integrate, operate, control, manage, evaluate and maintain photonic equipment and systems, with broad knowledge of NICT and prospective vision, based on their scientific, technological and ethical professional training, to contribute to the optimization of the use of resources and environmental conservation for the benefit of sustainable development of the Mexican nation and society as a whole.
Given the high-tech nature of photonic products, the graduate must have solid knowledge in basic sciences (Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry), as well as knowledge in basic engineering sciences (electricity, electronics, computing, communications), with knowledge of optics applied to photonics (geometrical optics, wave optics, Fourier optics), lasers and conventional light sources, photonic components, optical detection, communications via fiber optics, instrumentation, and photonic applications, safety in the handling of laser light, with engineering design, optomechanics, mechanisms, precision mechanics and use of machines, tools, electromechanics, IT, management, quality and administration of technologies, sustainable development, technology and society, oral and written expression, as well as command of English.
The graduate of the Photonics Engineering, IF, will bring to the practical field of the area knowledge in optics applied to photonics, such as electronics, optomechanics, and computing, as well as design photonic, electronic, and optomechanical precision systems, use computer systems in photonic systems, work in interdisciplinary teams, leadership to lead the development of projects, the management of NICT, as well as the design and development of photonic engineering projects.
The Photonics Engineering graduate will develop the following attitudes and values:
Will be a promoter of technological development and interdisciplinary work that will favor the development of their profession and society. Will become aware that the development and application of new technologies must guarantee sustainable development, obtaining a high degree of responsibility in his or self-taught updating concerning new technologies, also, he/she should become aware of the risks involved in the use of laser radiation, to protect the integrity of the operators and users of photonic technology and will have an entrepreneurial vision to generate their sources of employment and generate social welfare.
In Mexico, some of the companies that can provide jobs for future photonics engineers are:
