Objective

To train high-level professionals in the field of sustainable tourism, who act with quality, responsibility, tolerance, and social commitment and who are capable of understanding the natural, social, cultural, economic, and political circumstances and conditions of tourism activity, to propose solutions based on research, as an element that generates knowledge, for its application, dissemination, and transparency, and thus contribute to the development of the nation.

Candidate's Profile

The applicant to study for the Bachelor's Degree in Sustainable Tourism, at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, must have to:

  • Comply with the requirements to participate in the call for admission.
  • Pass the entrance exam to the Institute and/or the corresponding course.
  • Possess knowledge in the area of Social and Administrative Sciences.
  • Have computer skills (Internet access and navigation, use of search engines, use of software and other computer programs).
  • To have digital skills for the management of social networks and web applications.
  • Proficiency in English at a basic level or its equivalent B1 and ability to learn other languages.

  • Administration and statistics.
  • Office automation and information and communication technologies.
  • Geography, art, cultures, and customs of Mexico.
  • Research methodology.
  • About the application of technology to solve everyday problems.
  • About the use of learning techniques to apply them in the acquisition of new knowledge and skills.
  • Knows and values himself and tackles problems and challenges taking into account the objectives he is pursuing.

KNOW HOW

  • Use specific software (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, etc…).
  • Develop innovations and propose solutions to problems based on established methods.
  • Manage the four skills of the English language, achieving the communication required in the tourism sector.
  • Search, order, and analyze information from different sources.
  • Process, interpret and evaluate information.
  • Organize and design projects.
  • Know how to manage time.
  • Identify problems, propose alternative solutions, and evaluate their results.

Graduate's profile

A professional who designs and manages sustainable tourism projects through scientific, technological, and humanistic foundations, with equity, leadership, ethics, multiculturalism, and social responsibility.

  • The social needs detected, to which the professional will try to provide sustainable solutions.
  • The results of the investigations tend to determine the possible natural and social impact of the tourist activity.
  • The analysis that according to the disciplines or areas of knowledge could contribute elements for the solution of the economic and social problems.

Academic Requirements

The requirements to become a student at the Institute are:

  1. To comply with the academic background and other requirements indicated in the respective call for applications.
  2. To take the admission exam for the higher level.
  3. To be selected for admission.

Work Field

The professional field of the Bachelor in Sustainable Tourism is found in tourism organizations in the public, private and social sectors, as well as in sectors related to the activity itself:

  • Implement sustainable tourism policies.
  • Participate in the planning of national and international tourism activities.
  • Provide tourism training to individuals, communities, and establishments dedicated to tourism.
  • Design and consolidate tourism service SMEs, either their own or those of third parties.
  • Plan and manage environmental processes in tourism organizations to achieve certification standards and to preserve archaeological zones and/or protected natural reserves.
  • Advise and consult independently, works dedicated to tourism planning and to the preparation and evaluation of tourism projects and services.
  • Investigate tourism resources and activities in educational institutions, to achieve an adequate exploitation of them.
