The applicant to enter the Bachelor's Degree in Economics at the National Polytechnic Institute should be a student with a personal interest in social problems, willing and committed to learn and develop alternative proposals for solutions to the various problems that afflict the nation, so you must have oral and written communication skills, incline to abstract and numerical reasoning, ability to understand scientific texts, a vocation for research, knowledge of history, socialization for leadership and teamwork.

The graduate of the Bachelor's Degree in Economics of the National Polytechnic Institute has a mastery of Economic Science. Thus, the economist will have an analytical and proactive strength based on historicity and criticality that allows him/her to analyze, evaluate, apply, plan, forecast, design, and propose solutions to economic, technical, scientific, and administrative problems. Thus, he/she will be prepared to work in the public, private, social and research sectors, showing a proactive and collaborative attitude committed to his/her social and natural environment; conducting him/herself with ethical principles in the social, cultural, scientific and technological development of the nation.
Trained to make Mexico a sovereign country with social justice, trained to develop economic policy proposals that allow the country to mitigate external dependence, poverty, unemployment, marginalization, injustice, and social exclusion, the IPN graduate in Economics will have solid fundamental support of scientific knowledge and research skills to perform analysis, evaluation, and design of strategic policies of the national economy.
In this way, he/she will be able to intervene in the economic analysis of strategic issues for the country and the world in various national and international public and private sector organizations.
The knowledge of the economist who graduated from ESE is based on the following:
- Specific intellectual skills such as the ability to develop projects, comprehension of material specific to the profession, which implies reading habits, critical analysis, ability to express ideas clearly and simply in written and oral form, as well as the propositional capacity to the problems he/she faces.
- Mastery of teaching contents: knows the economic, political, and social events that determine the functioning of the world, regional and national economy.
- Teaching skills: knows how to design, organize and implement research projects according to the specific characteristics of the branches, regions, resources, and the link to their environment.
