Objective

To comprehensively train optometry professionals who contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the population, promoting and preserving visual and ocular health, through a competency-based model, focused on learning, flexibility and innovation, allowing inter and intra-institutional mobility, favoring the transition between levels and educational modalities.

Graduate's profile

The IPN graduate in Optometry is competent in the solution of visual and ocular problems and requirements of the population through evaluation, planning, research, prevention, and intervention, applying optometric knowledge and procedures in a transdisciplinary manner in the areas recommended by national and international organizations; with a sense of ethics and social commitment, manifesting a proactive attitude towards globalizing trends of today.

They will be health professionals who promote, examine, diagnose and implement treatment plans for the attention of alterations of the visual system, eye, and associated structures, as well as detect and monitor systemic diseases of national interest in an inter and multidisciplinary manner and develop research, management, and marketing functions that respond to the demands of society and the productive sector.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Mastery of basic sciences for their clinical and epidemiological application, in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of visual health problems of the population.
  • Mastery of clinical sciences for the prevention, diagnoses, treatment, and follow-up of visual health problems of the population.
  • Mastery of biomedical sciences that will allow him/her to diagnose the visual health of the Mexican population.
  • Mastery of research and public health, which will allow him/her to perform health diagnosis, as well as to design, apply and evaluate population health programs.
  • Application of knowledge of clinical optometry for the diagnosis and treatment of refractive alterations. Integration of basic knowledge of pediatrics that will allow him/her to diagnose and treat children.
  • Integration of basic knowledge of geriatrics that will allow him/her to perform diagnosis and treatment in older adults.
  • Integration of knowledge of pharmacology and ocular therapeutics for diagnosis and therapeutic treatment.
  • Mastery of a second language to strengthen their training and professional performance.
  • Management of elements of the area of social and humanistic sciences, as an essential factor for their professional practice. *Mastery of administration that allows them to develop functions that support their training and professional practice.
