Over 600 teachers from the Upper Secondary and Higher Education levels, as well as from the Centers for Regional Development and Outreach and the language centers, completed the English Language Teaching Enhancement Program of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN). The initiative, jointly coordinated by the Directorate for Foreign Language Training and the British Council, represents a milestone for the academic community.
During the certificate presentation ceremony—held on behalf of IPN Director General, Arturo Reyes Sandoval—the Secretary General, Ismael Jaidar Monter, highlighted that, over the past three years, the British Council Mexico has become an invaluable strategic ally. Its expertise, leadership, and technical guidance have ensured the depth, relevance, and real impact of this project within the teaching community.
“Today, we have a better-prepared and up-to-date teaching corps, one that is more closely connected to contemporary pedagogical practice. This effort also strengthens the internationalization of our students and of the Institute itself. Mastering a second or third language opens opportunities for mobility, academic collaboration, research, and professional development in global settings,” he stated at the ceremony held in the Ing. Alejo Peralta Auditorium of the Jaime Torres Bodet Cultural Center.
Academic Secretary María Isabel Rojas Ruiz emphasized that this strategic partnership enhances the Institute’s academic quality by strengthening English-language instruction—an essential component in preparing professionals capable of thriving in global, scientific, and technological contexts.
“This training process, supported by the British Council Mexico’s academic leadership and expertise, strengthened pedagogical, linguistic, and methodological competencies in line with international standards. This will directly translate into improved learning opportunities for IPN students,” she noted, expressing her gratitude to the organization for its commitment.
Darren Coyle, Country Director of the British Council for Mexico and the Caribbean, stressed that beyond teacher development, the collaboration with IPN has opened doors internationally by supporting the Institute in sharing its leadership in remote teaching with the global community of English-language educators. “We connected IPN colleagues with international practice communities in the United Kingdom and shared our safeguarding and gender-based violence policies—reinforcing our commitment to providing safe and equitable learning environments,” he said.
Also in attendance were the Director of Foreign Language Training, Silvia Blanco Vázquez; the heads of the Upper Secondary and Higher Education Directorates; and directors of several IPN academic units that took part in the program.
