Students and experts discuss “The Unpredictable Twenties: Contradictions and Challenges,” addressing the issues faced by the economic-administrative and social sciences.

The Center for Economic, Administrative, and Social Research (CIECAS) inaugurated the 2025 Doctoral Forum, titled “The Unpredictable Twenties: Contradictions and Challenges.” Over the course of two days, students and experts from the social and economic-administrative sciences will reflect on the major challenges faced by these fields, whose development has a direct impact on social well-being.

Martha Leticia Vázquez González, Secretary for Research and Graduate Studies at the IPN, and María del Pilar Monserrat Pérez Hernández, Director of CIECAS, officially opened the event — a space for dialogue and reflection on the future of these disciplines.

Dr. Vázquez reaffirmed the IPN’s commitment to promoting collaborative work in the social sciences by fostering stronger links with engineering, hard sciences, and emerging technologies.

She also wished great success to the lecturers and panelists, emphasizing that their participation and enthusiasm are essential to achieving significant transformations.

Social and economic-administrative sciences are vital for understanding the processes that shape economies and cultures. They help interpret technology, manage it, guide its responsible use, and ensure that knowledge addresses society’s most pressing needs.

The forum’s title stems from the idea that historians have identified the 1920s as a pivotal decade that shaped economic, social, and political transformations in society.

This second edition of the forum was also organized in collaboration with the IPN’s Economic Development Network, the Research and Teaching Network on Technological Innovation, and the Higher School of Economics (ESE).

The event will conclude this Wednesday with several presentations and lectures centered on the forum’s central theme.
