• The agreement includes joint actions for evaluation and certification
• New campuses are expected to open in Guerrero, particularly in Acapulco: “So that students can fulfill their dreams without leaving the state,” said the IPN Director General
As part of a historic alliance, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) and the Government of Guerrero have signed a General Collaboration Agreement aimed at expanding upper-secondary and higher education offerings in the state, directly benefiting the youth of Guerrero.
During the signing ceremony, IPN Director General Arturo Reyes Sandoval presented the Strategic Regional Analysis and Proposal for Educational Offerings in the State of Guerrero, aligned with the policy priorities of Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado Carrillo. The proposal outlines the creation of new IPN campuses in the state, including a Center for Scientific and Technological Studies (Cecyt) and an Interdisciplinary Professional Unit of Engineering (UPII) in the municipality of Acapulco, to close educational access gaps in the region.
“For the IPN, it is both a privilege and a profound commitment to put down roots in the resilient land of Guerrero, now the 25th state to welcome us,” said Reyes Sandoval. “Under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, we have been tasked with providing full support to the states most in need, and we are doing so with the most powerful tool available: education.”
He emphasized that this initiative will allow many young people to pursue their academic aspirations within their home state. “They will be able to fulfill their dreams of studying at the IPN without having to leave Guerrero,” he said. Reyes Sandoval also noted that this expansion is part of the Institute’s broader commitment to the President’s national goal of increasing IPN’s student enrollment by 30,000.
Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to education as a key driver of social transformation and expressed her support for the collaborative strategy with the IPN.
“I am convinced that, through this joint effort, Guerrero will no longer be associated with educational lag, but will instead emerge as a national benchmark in innovation, educational equity, and scientific and technological development,” she stated.
In addition to the general agreement, the IPN and the Instituto de Capacitación para el Trabajo del Estado de Guerrero (ICATEGRO) signed a Specific Collaboration Agreement to implement evaluation and certification activities aligned with national competency standards.
“This marks our first joint effort,” said Reyes Sandoval. “Through this agreement, we aim to develop coordinated actions for competency-based evaluations and certifications that will directly benefit participating individuals by enhancing their training and qualifications.”
The partnership also includes progress on a tourism development strategy that began last month, following the signing of a General Collaboration Agreement between the IPN’s Escuela Superior de Turismo and the Guerrero State Ministry of Tourism. The initiative focuses on training, professional development, and the design of development plans for tourist regions such as Costa Chica.
The event was attended by several high-level officials, including IPN Secretary General Mauricio Igor Jasso Zaranda; IPN Secretary of Administration Javier Tapia Santoyo; IPN Secretary of Innovation and Social Integration Yessica Gasca Castillo; Guerrero Secretary of Education Ricardo Castillo Peña; Director General of the Guerrero State Council for Technology and Innovation Miguel Rendón Liborio; and Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio, among others.
