The Director General of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Arturo Reyes Sandoval, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to the nation and every state that comprises it.
“Being part of the IPN,” he stated, “means carrying an identity rooted in social justice and national sovereignty. Today, we not only celebrate that identity but also the recent accomplishments of our institution across every region where we are present.”
As part of the Día del Politécnico celebrations, Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado Carrillo, in a message addressed to the community, highlighted that the IPN represents a vision of modernity with a working-class character, a popular spirit, and a vocation for social emancipation.
At the Cecyt 20 “Natalia Serdán Alatriste” campus in Puebla, Director General Reyes Sandoval announced an investment of $5mdp in semiconductor innovation projects. These efforts will be carried out in partnership with institutions such as the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla as part of the national education strategy led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
He added that this investment builds upon a previous allocation of $10mpd dedicated to research projects. He also announced that starting this year, the IPN will cover the publication fees for all scientific articles authored by its researchers.
Politécnicos, he emphasized, believes in education and in science—and in the transformative power of science to positively impact society. In this regard, he noted that the IPN currently operates 93 academic units located across 38 municipalities in 24 states of the country.
Over the past year, the IPN has strengthened its regional development initiatives as a form of social justice, ensuring that every community in the country has access to education, healthcare, and cultural services.
This approach spares residents from having to travel long distances. “That is why the IPN is committed to reaching students where they live—so they no longer need to relocate to Mexico City, as they did for many years. This means better opportunities for them,” he affirmed.
As part of the 89th anniversary of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, which will be commemorated in 2025 and coincides with the birthday of General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, Reyes Sandoval reiterated the institution’s commitment to President Sheinbaum to expand enrollment by an additional 30,000 seats, in line with the federal government’s strategy. He noted that 40,000 new spots have already been opened during his tenure, with a total goal of 70,000.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta Mier, the state government’s Honorary Advisor, Alejandro Armenta Arellano, highlighted that under the leadership of Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo—Mexico’s first woman president and currently the only scientist serving as a head of state worldwide—education is destined to become a driving force for progress and development.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alberto Paredes Treviño, Director of Cecyt 20 “Natalia Serdán Alatriste,” expressed his pride in this Polytechnic celebration, which reaffirms the Institute’s guiding principle: La Técnica al Servicio de la Patria.
He also praised the efforts of the IPN to strengthen the state of Puebla and led a spirited Huélum in honor of all Politécnicos across the country who dedicate their work to the well-being of Mexican families.
