“Spiritual Disciplines,” created by an ESIA Ticomán student, wins the Graffiti Contest on Peace and Sports Culture

The winning mural of the First Graffiti Contest on Peace and Sports Culture—organized by the Office of the Ombudsperson for Polytechnic Rights as part of its 20th anniversary—was officially unveiled at the Wilfrido Massieu Stadium in Zacatenco. During the ceremony, the Secretary General of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Ismael Jaidar Moner, emphasized that the urban artwork reflects the vision and values of Mexico’s youth.

“Promoting values that foster spaces like this contributes to building a more cohesive and forward-looking society. The Polytechnic is an open institution for all; however, it does not grant impunity or immunity to any conduct that violates human rights,” he stated.

Jaidar Moner highlighted the collaborative effort with the Graffiti Unit of Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) in the creation of the mural Spiritual Disciplines, designed by Jared de Jesús Pineda López, a Geological Engineering student at the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería y Arquitectura (ESIA), Ticomán Unit. The artist expressed his gratitude to the IPN for providing a platform to showcase art and creativity centered on peace and sports.

Luisa Alicia Sánchez Vidal, head of the Office of the Ombudsperson for Polytechnic Rights, underscored that the mural represents a legitimate expression of freedom of speech—one of the fundamental pillars of human rights.

“It is a voice projected onto an emblematic space of the Institute, conveying a message that reminds us of the importance of building a more just, inclusive, and respectful society that upholds the dignity of all individuals,” she noted.

She added that initiatives like this encourage student participation in creating more positive environments within the institution and promote active engagement in campus life. “Let us continue building a community where rights are not only proclaimed but lived every day, as the foundation for meaningful change,” she said.

Also in attendance was Paulina Salazar Patiño, Undersecretary for Citizen Participation and Crime Prevention of Mexico City’s SSC, who praised initiatives that foster talent, unity, and discipline.

“We are ambassadors of efforts that promote respect, a culture of peace, and unity among diverse perspectives. While we may think differently, the goal is to come together constructively,” she remarked.

Following the official ceremony, the event concluded with a mascot race and a performance by the cheerleading team from the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica (ESIME), Zacatenco Unit.
