As part of the 52nd anniversary celebrations of the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica Unidad Culhuacán (ESIME Culhuacán), the campus officially inaugurated its renovated sports facilities, including a football field, an athletics track, relocated outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, two open-air gyms, and a new interactive digital classroom available to the entire student community.
The new facilities feature a synthetic turf field designed for American football, flag football, and soccer, as well as a state-of-the-art tartan athletics track.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, ESIME Culhuacán Director Dalia Ruiz Domínguez emphasized that beyond physical activity, sports foster discipline, teamwork, and both physical and mental well-being, while also strengthening social interaction and a sense of belonging among students.
“We are very fortunate that, under the administration of Director General Arturo Reyes Sandoval, a significant effort has been made to provide this community with top-tier sports facilities. Education must be comprehensive; athletic and cultural development cannot be overlooked,” she stated.
The director added that the inauguration of the sports complex builds on previous upgrades, including the replacement of wooden parquet flooring with modern sports flooring in the indoor gym, the installation of protective roofing structures to prevent water leaks, improved indoor and outdoor lighting, and the upgrading of restrooms and showers with hot water.
These improvements complement the 14 restroom facilities available for men, women, and individuals with disabilities across the campus buildings.
Accompanied by Marco Antonio Sorcini Muñoz, Head of the Educational Management and Quality Division of Higher Education, representing Academic Secretary María Isabel Rojas Ruíz, Director Dalia Ruiz also inaugurated the new Interactive Digital Classroom. The facility is equipped with nine stations, virtual reality headsets, and an interactive table, enabling students—from undergraduate to graduate levels—to engage in innovative academic activities.
The event concluded with a series of sports activities, including a mixed flag football game, batting practice in two new cages, soccer and American football matches between veteran and novice teams, and a mascot race.
For the ESIME Culhuacán community, these renovated sports facilities are highly significant, as the campus hosts multiple representative teams, including basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, taichi chuan, taekwondo, flag football, and the American football team, the Cheyennes.
