IPN Signs General Collaboration Agreement with the Chamber of Deputies

• As part of the work carried out by the Science, Technology, and Innovation Committee of San Lázaro, the Director General of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Arturo Reyes Sandoval, signed an agreement aimed at strengthening ties and fostering collaboration between the government, legislators, and Higher Education Institutions.

• The head of the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (Secihti), Rosaura Ruiz, acknowledged the importance of the agreement and emphasized the need for collaborative work, given the current fragmentation of Mexican science.

• The Chairman of the Committee, Eruviel Ávila, highlighted the significance of holding the meeting outside the Lower House and underscored the importance of teamwork for the benefit of Mexico.

At the facilities of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), and to maximize the use of human, material, and financial resources in teaching, research, dissemination, and professional development activities, IPN, led by its Director General, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, signed a General Collaboration Agreement with the 66th Legislature of the Chamber of Deputies during the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Committee.

The event was attended by the Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (Secihti), Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez, as an honorary witness, in a session chaired by the Chairman of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Eruviel Ávila Villegas, with the presence of senators as well. Dr. Reyes Sandoval emphasized that this historic session, held at IPN facilities, marks a turning point in strengthening ties and fostering collaboration between the government, legislators, and Higher Education Institutions.

“We know that we have in our hands a pending historical challenge, such as weaving collaborative networks that are efficient and effective, sharing projects, visions, and strengths that allow us to make Mexico an innovative nation, and this meeting is a strong message about the importance of research and Innovation led by our president, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo,” she stressed.

Sandoval noted that, as the technological arm of the Mexican government, IPN offers extensive expertise through its specialists in critical fields such as Artificial Intelligence, data science, and semiconductors. This contribution is not limited to research projects but also includes the training of professionals through top-tier programs, such as the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science graduate program, which is unique in Latin America.

Secretary Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez emphasized the importance of inter-institutional collaboration as part of the National Scientific, Humanistic, and Technological System of the country: "There must be a collaborative effort. Mexican science is fragmented; there are many important research centers, universities, and Secihti Public Centers with remarkable developments."

She pointed out that, under the mandate of President Claudia Sheinbaum, "one of Secihti's functions is to seek a different organization from before, moving away from individual research efforts with scattered results to coordinated efforts." She stressed, "We must move beyond the model where a high-level electron microscope is available only in a single institution's laboratory and cannot be shared with others."

The Secretary commended the joint efforts between the Science, Technology, and Innovation Committees of both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. She also introduced the Secihti initiative to promote the National Common Space Network for Education, Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (Red Ecos Nacional). This collaborative work model fosters the development of technological projects such as Olinia and Kutsari, in which IPN actively participates.

Eruviel Ávila emphasized that this meeting reflects the legislative branch's commitment to working as a team and contributing to the development of public policies in science, technology, innovation, and humanities, as promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

The legislator also highlighted that this is the first time a diverse group of legislators has been received at IPN. "Science, innovation, technology, and humanities unite all Mexicans; they unite us all," he concluded.
