IPN Awards Honorary Doctorate to Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina

• Arturo Reyes Sandoval noted during the formal ceremony that the former governor’s administration will be remembered for supporting IPN’s expansion into Puebla through the construction of two Polytechnic campuses.

• “This recognition belongs to all those who have worked to place education at the center of development and transformation,” affirmed the former Governor of Puebla.

The Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) awarded an Honorary Doctorate to Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, former Governor of the State of Puebla and current Commissioner of the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM), in recognition of his legacy and his efforts to facilitate the arrival of the Polytechnic’s academic offerings in the state.

During the formal ceremony held at IPN’s Council Chamber, the Institute’s Director General, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, emphasized that the Puebla leader’s administration will be remembered for the steadfastness of someone who builds with a vision set on the decades ahead.

“You understood that Puebla’s progress is built on multiple fronts: not only by strengthening the human spirit through knowledge, but by charting development pathways supported by modern infrastructure and communications that now connect that remarkable state with the world,” he stated.

Reyes Sandoval underscored that IPN’s presence in Puebla is now a tangible reality, transforming the region’s development ecosystem by educating future specialists in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Control and Automation, Food Engineering, and Automotive Systems. These programs are offered through the Centro de Estudios Científicos y Tecnológicos No. 20 'Natalia Serdán Alatriste' and the Unidad Profesional Interdisciplinaria de Ingeniería Puebla 'Alejo Peralta', both established during Céspedes Peregrina’s administration.

He also noted that, through the Centro de Innovación e Integración de Tecnologías Avanzadas (CIITA), the state’s productive capacities are being strengthened through strategic partnerships, technology transfer, and applied innovation.

“By granting you the highest distinction awarded by the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, we also express the gratitude of thousands of families who now see in those classrooms a future that once seemed beyond reach,” the Director General added.

In his remarks, Céspedes Peregrina expressed his appreciation to Director Reyes Sandoval, the General Council, and the entire Polytechnic community. He affirmed that being an alumnus of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional is synonymous with excellence, quality, commitment, and love for Mexico.

“To receive this Honorary Doctorate, which represents the highest distinction the Instituto Politécnico Nacional can confer in recognition of a distinguished trajectory, fills me with profound emotion and gratitude.

“I have no words to fully express my appreciation. I do not regard this recognition as a personal achievement, but as a gesture that honors all those who have worked to place education at the center of development and transformation,” the honoree stated.

In his address to the Polytechnic community, Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina added that from the beginning of his public service career, he understood the urgent need to improve the future of Puebla’s children and youth through education, ensuring that all had access to higher learning—an aspiration that has now become tangible with IPN’s presence in the state.
