With this new space, the Museum’s renovation is completed; visitors will explore the evolution of computing and the importance of mathematics in everyday life

The Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), through the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (SIP), inaugurated a new space at the Tezozómoc Museum: the Mathematics and Computer Science Hall, where visitors can explore—through interactive and engaging experiences—the evolution of these fields of knowledge and their relevance to daily life.

During the opening ceremony of the interactive hall, Martha Leticia Vázquez González, Secretary of Research and Graduate Studies (SIP) of the IPN, stated that mathematics and computer science not only explain the world, but actively transform it.

She emphasized that mathematics forms the foundation of engineering, physics, optics, and computer science, and plays a key role in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), chip design, nanotechnology, and even art. Mathematics also helps us understand environmental phenomena, which is why it is essential to learn about its evolution over time, she added.

Vázquez González noted that the Tezozómoc Museum serves as a bridge between the scientific community and society, acting as a seedbed for inspiration and scientific vocations among new generations. She described it as a living, inclusive museum committed to fostering knowledge and education across scientific and technological disciplines.

She also reported that, with the opening of the Mathematics Hall, the IPN has completed the renovation of the Tezozómoc Museum, fulfilling its institutional mission to provide comprehensive education to the Polytechnic community, promote the social appropriation of knowledge, and encourage scientific and technological vocations—thereby consolidating the museum as a dynamic space dedicated to science outreach.

Finally, the SIP Secretary expressed her appreciation for the support of researchers from the Escuela Superior de Cómputo (Escom). Thanks to their contributions, visitors will be able to take a journey through time by exploring computing equipment, cameras, audio devices, video games, mobile phones, calculators, and other technologies that illustrate the evolution of technology and offer insight into the world of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

In the Mathematics and Computer Science Hall at the Tezozómoc Museum, visitors will also find tools designed to simplify the understanding of arithmetic operations, the decimal numbering system, and concepts such as software, and will even be able to see the first minicomputer to arrive at the IPN: the PDP-12.

The Tezozómoc Museum is located at Avenida Zempoaltecas s/n, in the Azcapotzalco borough. Visitors can explore the new Mathematics and Computer Science Hall from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
