Business linkage

Main Activities

Promote the articulation of the scientific, technological, and service capacities of the Politécnico units with the needs of the social, public, and private productive sectors, with the purpose of improving their productivity and boosting their competitiveness at the national and international levels.

Operate the Institutional Models of Business Acceleration and Social Economy Development, initiatives developed by the DSETT for the development and growth of MSMEs, based on research, technological development, and innovation.

Integrate and promote the IPN's catalog of services in the social, public, and private productive sectors.

Establish strategic alliances for the development of projects to improve productivity and increase the competitiveness of MSMEs.

Promote the participation of the IPN community in linkage actions and business projects, thus allowing them to complement the knowledge acquired in the classroom and facilitate their insertion in the labor field. Business Acceleration: Review and, if necessary, update the business acceleration model.

What is standardization?

The process of formulating and applying rules for the purpose of orderly performance of a specific activity for the benefit and with the achievement of optimum overall economy, considering fundamental characteristics and safety requirements. It is based on the consolidated results of science, technology, and experience and determines not only the basis for the present but also for future development and must keep pace with progress (ISO, 2010).

The fundamental objective of standardization is to develop standards to control and obtain the best performance from materials and production methods, thus contributing to a better standard of living. The standards resulting from this activity must comprise three fundamental aspects:

It contributes a serious and precise study that consists of a rational and systematic arrangement to eliminate everything that is the result of improvisation, whim, or ignorance.

It simplifies the definition of manufacturing tolerances by defining or agreeing on dimensional characteristics.

It is to define quality by reproducible and verifiable methods. Mexico is immersed in a global standardization system, through the integration of committees of international standardization organizations, some of them are:

  • ISO International Organization for Standardization

  • IEC- international electrotermichal commission

  • IEEE- institute electrical and Electronics engineers

  • IATA International Air transport association

The governing body of National Standardization is the General Directorate of Standards (DGN), which is a National Standardization Unit, is the General Directorate of Standards (DGN), which is an Administrative Unit under the Undersecretary of Competitiveness and Standardization of the Ministry of Economy. It is the entity in charge of exercising the powers conferred by the Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization, the Federal Consumer Protection Law, the Hydrocarbons Law, the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, the regulations and other applicable provisions on standardization, metrology, and conformity assessment, as well as international agreements and treaties on this matter.

a) Mexican Official Standards (NOM) are of mandatory application and establish the minimum quality and safety standards for products and services offered to users and are prepared by the Federal Government Agencies according to their attributions, through the National Consultative Committees of Standardization, which are of a public nature.

b) Mexican Standards (NMX) are of voluntary application and determine the quality of the products and services in question, particularly for the protection and orientation of consumers; it is worth mentioning that such standards may not contain specifications lower than those established in the Mexican Official Standards; they are promoted by the private sector, through the National Standardization Organizations according to their competence; while for the areas not covered by such organizations, the standards are made and promoted by the Ministry of Economy through the National Standardization Technical Committees.

c) Reference Standards (NRF) are those prepared by federal public administration entities such as Pemex, CFE, among others, in cases where the applicable NOMs or international standards do not meet their requirements, or the specifications they contain are considered inapplicable or obsolete.

d) International Standards are those developed by international standardization organizations, which have been recognized by the Mexican government, under the terms of international law.

Metrology

It is the science that deals with units of measurement, verification, and calibration of measuring equipment. CENAM is responsible for establishing and maintaining national standards and offering calibration services for instruments and standards.

Metrology in Mexico

In Mexico, the Centro Nacional de Metrología CENAM is the national reference laboratory for measurements and is responsible for establishing and maintaining national standards, offering metrological services such as calibration of instruments and standards, certification and development of reference materials, specialized courses in metrology, proficiency testing and consulting. It maintains close contact with other national laboratories and international organizations related to metrology, to ensure international awareness of Mexico's national standards and, consequently, promote the acceptance of our country's products and services.

Metrology is the branch of physics that studies the measurements of magnitudes by tracing their standardization through traceability. It limits uncertainty in measurements by means of a tolerance field. It includes the study, maintenance, and application of systems of weights and measures in the scientific, industrial, and legal fields, as well as in any other field demanded by society. Its main objective is to obtain and express magnitudes using instruments, measurements, and appropriate methods with the required accuracy for each case.

Between 60% and 80% of the failures in a factory are directly related to the lack of an adequate metrological system.

The Instituto Politécnico Nacional, through its experts in different fields, is involved in multiple committees participating and contributing in general to the conditions of metrology, standardization, and conformity assessment required by the country.
